Every one feels his own burden heavy.

Every one feels his own burden heavy.
Traditional (French-language collection) · Unknown culture

Meaning in plain English

A person experiences the weight of their own difficulties directly. Recognising that perspective can help people take another’s burden seriously without ranking whose life must be hardest.

Example

Two volunteers explain why apparently small assignments are difficult alongside their other commitments, then redistribute the work.

Deeper explanation and when to use it

The burden is felt by the person carrying it. The proverb notices why someone’s own problem can occupy more attention than a difficulty observed from outside. It need not accuse that person of selfishness or claim that every burden is equal. A useful reading asks what the task actually demands, what support exists and what another person may be unable to see. Listening can widen perspective while leaving each person’s experience worthy of consideration.

When to use it

Use it to invite understanding of demands that an outside observer may underestimate.

Keep in mind

Different experiences deserve attention without assuming all situations impose equal hardship.
