That which is easily done is soon believed.

That which is easily done is soon believed.

Historical period not yet established

Meaning in plain English

A claim may be accepted more readily when the action described seems easy to imagine. The saying warns that apparent feasibility can encourage belief, without making an easy task proof that a reported event actually happened.

What the words are saying

The saying links ease of doing with speed of believing. A useful reading notices how a familiar or simple action can make a report sound plausible before its evidence has been checked. Someone may think that because the event could easily have happened, it probably did. Possibility and occurrence remain different questions. An ordinary claim can be true, false or incomplete, just as a difficult achievement can be well documented. The proverb can prompt a proportionate check of what is actually known, rather than suspicion of every simple account or acceptance of complexity as a sign of greater truth.

Everyday example

A reader accepts that a missing label could have been moved during tidying but checks the working notes before repeating that explanation as the established cause.

When to use it

Use it when plausibility is being treated as evidence that an event occurred.

What it does not mean

Neither ease nor difficulty establishes truth; distinguish a possible explanation from a documented one.
